Natural Dental Care

What can I do at home to have healthy teeth and gums?

Step 1 – Brush often! We have wonderful biodegradable toothbrushes at the shop. Use dental

floss daily; those little floss picks make it easy and convenient. Use a water pik to really get in

there, under that gum line. If we aren’t willing to put in the work consistently, then we might

have to see the dentist for expensive and invasive procedures.

Step 2 – Make toothpaste which removes plaque, add minerals to strengthen tooth enamel,

and discourages bacteria.

Homemade Toothpaste

1/3 c bentonite clay 1 pkt Xylitol or stevia

¼ tsp sea salt 2 Tbs coconut oil - liquid

2 Tbs Miracle II neutralizer 2 Tb black walnut tincture

5 drops peppermint essential oil 1 Tb colloidal silver

Mix all ingredients in bowl, add water or more clay as needed to make the consistency you want, and store in airtight container.  Optional ingredients to consider:  baking soda or activated charcoal powder to whiten teeth.  Redefine recipe as desired.

Step 3 – We can make a healthier version of a mouthwash. A rinse that will help kill bacteria

and strengthen teeth, but without the chemicals.

Dental Health Powder

½ c. sea salt, 3 Tbs white oak bark powder, 3 Tbs black walnut hull powder,

2 Tbs marshmallow root powder, 2 Tbs comfrey root powder

Tooth Essential Oil

1 part each of thyme, oregano, myrrh, or clove essential oil,

4 parts peppermint or wintergreen oil in a dropper bottle

Use ½ tsp. tooth powder with 3 drops essential oil blend. Add water to liquefy and swish as a mouthwash for 1 minute, 3-4 times a day. Repair takes longer, if you are older

Step 4 – Herbs to strengthen teeth and gums

Tooth Booster Tea:

2 parts alfalfa, 1 part oat straw, 1 part horsetail (shave grass)

1 part peppermint…Mix dry herbs together, use 1 tsp herbs per cup of hot water

Drink a cup of tea, 3 times a day to help rebuild tooth enamel

Mineral rich herbs – alfalfa, oat straw, horsetail, and black walnut

High in iodine, potassium, magnesium, manganese, sulfur, copper, silica, and natural fluoride…these herbs support healthy muscles, nerves, teeth, hair, skin, nails

Astringent herbs – white oak bark or bayberry, make as a tea and swish

These herbs tighten loose tissues, creating a tight barrier of gum around the tooth

Marshmallow herb or root – anti-inflammatory

Essential oils – thyme, oregano, myrrh, clove, peppermint

Discourage bacterial growth and are helpful for pain

Miracle II Neutralizer – blend of minerals that change your pH, helps remove plaque

Coconut Oil – antibacterial, used for “oil pulling” – a technique to reduce bacteria

Colloidal Silver – kills bacteria, virus, and fungus

Sea Salt – source of minerals, healing, anti-bacterial, astringent

Bentonite Clay – pulls out toxins/bacteria
